GST Latest News: GSTR-9, GSTR-9C Due Dates Extended (again!)

Due dates for filing GSTR-9 & GSTR-9C for the FY 2017-18 is extended from Nov 30th, 2019 to Dec 31st, 2019.

And, GSTR-9 & GSTR-9C for the FY 2018-19 is extended from Dec 31st, 2019 to 31st March 2020.

You should now use the additional time to address your concerns and ensure the returns are filed before the extended due date.

  GSTR-9 is a GST annual return to be filed yearly by the GST taxpayer.
  GSTR-9C is filed by those whose annual turnover exceeds Rs 2Cr.

The report says that only 15% of the taxpayers have filed their annual return GSTR-9 and less than 1% have filed GSTR-9C.

Possible reasons for extending GSTR-9 and GSTR-9C Due Date.
 Some aspects of the form are complex.
 Difficulty in understanding and interpreting the fields provided.
 Various practical challenges.

Also, GSTR-9 and GSTR-9C forms are now easier to file.
 It’s made much simpler with more optional fields instead of mandatory fields.
 You need not provide a split of ITC availed on inputs, input services, and capital goods.
 You need not provide HSN level information of outputs or inputs.

GOVT expects that with the simplification of GSTR-9 and GSTR-9C and the extension of deadlines, all the GST taxpayers would be able to file their GSTR-9 and GSTR-9C in time.
